The Next Big Thing: Far Rockaway El-Space Corridor to Opportunity
04/10/20 - 05/31/20
12:00 am - 11:00 pm

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and the Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity (RISE) is showcasing the Next Big Thing: Far Rockaway El-Space Corridor to Opportunity located along the elevated A Train on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. In partnership with the Design Trust for Public Space, earlier phases of this green infrastructure and open space initiative have concentrated on el-space at Beach 60th Street and Rockaway Freeway proximate to RISE's environmental center. The work includes a dune-like planter with perimeter seating and specialized plantings to filtrate storm water runoff from the elevated train structure. Current and subsequent phases are seeking to reclaim thousands of square feet beneath and adjacent to the elevated for community programming, entrepreneurship opportunities and environmental stewardship.
